Do Not Forget About Your White Pumps.

Happy Summer Lavish Ones!

I am sure that you have pulled out all of your lovely bright white maxi dresses, tank tops, halters, shorts, and accessories.  Well, while you are getting all of your beautiful whites out, do not forget about your white pumps.

I never gave much thought to anything white below the ankle (excluding a great white sneaker).  I often equated white pumps to my high school graduation.  We were mandated to wear them or we would NOT prance across that stage.  I am from Texas, so we do everything big or go home (figuratively and literally).

I am not sure when my feet began to tingle at the thought of white pumps.  Was it a gradual white out or was it an explosion of white stars? Whatever way this thought transpired, the end result is F A B U L O U S.  As I looked for style inspiration, I noticed that white pump transcends across seasons, every dress length and all occasions.  These fashionable pumps can be worn with the most luxurious of trouser and the most distressed jean in the world. Some are even hailing the white pump as the new neutral. I am not quite ready to make that statement; however, I am willing to test it.

So the next time you bring out your easy breezy summer whites, do not forget to make your feet smile by encasing them in a bright white pump.

Until the next time…

The Fanny Pack is Back

Hello Lavish Ones!!

The 1980s fanny pack is BACK and it is back with a fashionable vengeance! This fashion restatement is also known as: belt bag, waist belt, or bum bag.  Whatever term you choose to use, the reemergence of this accessory is feverish. As of late, every magazine had a beautiful woman gliding across it’s pages looking fabulous with a pouch hanging off her waist or strapped across her chest.

These pouches were continually calling my name.  The stress! The pressure!  Well, it goes without saying; I succumbed to the pressure. What was one to do!  I  even thought about resurrecting one that my uber stylish mama owned in the 80s, but I did not have the energy to search the nearby landfills. So I bit the bullet, logged on to my favorite pre-loved luxury site, and entered the belt bag world.

Here is a tad bit of history on the fanny pack. The fanny pack is a small fabric pouch usually secured with a zipper and worn by use of a strap around the hips or waist. This peculiar little accessory dates back to the 15th century France. However, it was not until the 1980s that Americans embraced the fanny pack in all of its glory.  The American and British names derive from the fact that they were often worn with the pouch above the buttocks, for which “fanny” and “bum” are the slang terms in each country, respectively.  The British consider the word “fanny” to be vulgar,  hence the name “bum” bag versus “fanny” pack.

Today, these practical bags are worn slung to the side on a hip, clipped at the back, fastened across the body or worn directly in the middle of the waist. Everyone from busy mommies on the go to the fashionably elite can be seen strutting their stuff in this nifty trend.  If you really ponder on it, it does make perfect sense to clip one on.  Fanny packs give you the freedom to be hands free while having all of your essentials nearby.

So long story short ladies…get on this fanny pack, belt bag, waist belt,  bum bag bandwagon before the 1980s calls and asks for their favorite accessory back!

Until the Next Time…

I Am Awake and Desire Some Cake!

It is my BIRTHDAY month and everyone who knows me knows that I love my birthday!  I literally become intoxicated with all the birthday wishes, gifts, dinners/lunches, but most importantly the birthday cake.  I love me some birthday cake! Any flavor will do, as long as, it is baked in my honor (Ha…sometimes I amuse myself!).

The reason I love my birthday is not for narcissistic reasons (insert husband’s, daughter’s, AND dog’s side eye). The reason I adore the day on which I was born is that I am alive to celebrate it; however, I  don’t just mean (alive) in the physical sense.  I am alive spiritually, relationally, emotionally, politically, mentally, financially… (I could go on all day).

This aliveness is what (I suppose) the younger generation refers to being WOKE.  If that is the case, then I am “full pot of coffee woke”.  And because of this “wokeness”, I celebrate the fact that I have been graced with one more year. I have another year to right my wrongs, perfect my rights, access my surroundings, be thankful for the doors that closed and karate kick other doors wide open.

Being “woke” is absolutely necessary for growth and all of us need (and should desire) growth. Now, let me tell you…being “awake” is not always fun nor is it easy.  Sometimes, it is downright brutal.  However, I would rather be a woman who is alive and awake than a sleeping woman who is out of touch with every facet of life (except my bed).

In this next year, I look forward to all of the great things that are in store and all of the reasons I will have to celebrate.  Also while I am “awake” and aware, I pledge to find peace and gloriousness in EVERY. SINGLE. THING…including this 1,000 calorie birthday cake that I am about to stuff into my face.

Until the next time…

Seasons of Change

Hello Lavish Land!

Summer is ending and Fall is quickly approaching.  Some  (including me) are excitedly awaiting this change of season while others dreading are less sunny days and more layers of clothing.

As I  prepare my closet for the impending weather change…adding cardigans and scarfs while subtracting sleeveless maxis and short sexy shorts…you know, tedious stuff like that… I began to think how life is just like my ever exploding closet (Sorry Husband). Adjusting myself to meet the needs of the season.

Just as passing months bring the change of seasons, life brings about seasons of change.  There are times when life throws so many lemons that you don’t have the energy to make lemonade.   Everyone says “enter lemons…exit that sweet tarty drink”.  What if you don’t like lemonade?!  What is supposed to happen then?!

Then there are times when life is so fabulous that everything you touch turns to gold, sterling silver, or rose gold (whichever you prefer).  So good that, when you enter a room time stops, the winds begin to blow, and your theme music starts.  These are are glorious times indeed!

Well, with both of these times have one thing in common.  They will change.

There are a few things that keep me balanced in times of famine and time of feast. First, exercising my faith.  Faith.. a word so small; however, the meaning is so huge.  It helps me to stay grounded, humble, grateful, and prepared.  Secondly, taking time for me. Taking time to be quiet and wait on clarity for my next move or a voice that says…stay where you are.  Finally, have a good laugh with family, students, or girl tribe.  Laughter will always change the atmosphere!

Just as you must prepare for the changing of the natural seasons….you must do the same for the changes in your life.  How you do that is totally up to you. Just do it!

Also, May I add that including a great Moscato, an awesome bag, or fabulous new ensemble always make a gloomy day bright and a bright day shine even brighter.  Ooooooh, I just imagined all three at the same time…my soul can not contain the joy!!

Let’s toast to all seasons of the life and a magnificent fall warbrobe! Clink…Clink…Clink

Until the next time…Stay Lavish

Hash It Out or Hush It Up?

Hello Lavish Ones!!!!

I am having a debate with one of my friend girls (that is my grandmother’s word for…girlfriends).  We are discussing whether it is better to “hash it out” after an argument/disagreement or to completely hush.  Friend Girl says “talking it out” is the only way to truly solve an issue plus it limits the possibility of creating a larger problem. She thinks hashing it out right then and there with no time lapse is the answer!

Of course, this would be too easy if I agreed with her.  There would be nothing to write about!

My stance is to go COMPLETELY mute (Insert Husband’s eye roll).  But that is the nature of my personality…I am an internalizer. I believe one should hush until ALL hearts and minds are clear (Southern church talk y’all…Hallelujah).  Then the pathway to clarity can begin. Cooler heads always prevail.

Amazingly, Friend Girl and I both agree one thing. The amount of passion used to resolve a conflict is dependent on how much you value the relationship and visa versa.  The desired result should not just to be proven right or seen in a positive light.

Sadly, some relationships add no value to your world and it is best to say your peace…with silence.  Let them see your lavishly detailed back as you move forward.

How you choose to settle uncomfortable situations with another is totally up to you. But…ALWAYS….do it with respect.

Are you a hasher or a husher?  Whatever you are…ALWAYS REMAIN LAVISH!

Hop in a Jumpsuit!

I hope all is beautiful, Lavish Loves!

Let’s talk about favorites.  My favorite obsession is a favorite every glamorous girl I know…the almighty jumpsuit.  Who in the world does not love a good jumpsuit?  An all in one ensemble…the woman’s version of an infant onesie!  Every woman I know has at least one in her closet.  But of course, you know I own a few more (Uggghhh..ME).  Note to self…I need to get an accurate count when husband is out of the house (Hee Hee).

The jumpsuit was originally a one piece garment designed for skydivers or parachuters, but low and behold, the gender that runs the world got wind of this idea (we make everything better).  Then this article of clothing morphed into a simple, chic, and fashionable must have (insert an AMEN).  There are so many variations of this piece of clothing; different arm/pant lengths and widths, multiple materials, and an abundance of embellishments.  Also, they are extremely budget friendly.  There is a jumpsuit out there tailored every lavish liking.  Therefore, is absolutely no reason not to own one or MANY.

So next time that you and your youngin need to get out of the house in a hurry, grab a onesie for the baby and one for yourself.  I promise you will be glamorously on the road in micro seconds!

Until the next time, have a great week and remain Lavish!

I Choose Joy

Greetings Lavish Ones!

What do you do when life is giving you a supermarket cart full of lemons? Many say make lemonade; I say to choose JOY.

I became a Girl Boss this year!   My new position is demanding (at times), challenging (sometimes), rewarding (all the time). I go full throttle most of the day and some of those days extremely long.  Is a 14 hour work day long?  Then yes…some days are long!  The mere fact that my dream came true is wonderfully and amazingly crazy to me!

But something strange happened as I was enjoying my new girl boss status.  I became overwhelmingly exhausted, irritable and a down right curmudgeon.  I found myself rolling out of bed instead springing out to get to the job that I adored and prayed so hard for.  It even became a chore to take photos (I live to stick my face in a picture) or to even craft a blog post.

What in the world was going on?!  I was not me. I was not laughing. I was NOT lavish.  Houston, we have a problem!!

I had to admit.. I received my blessing with open arms but I was reluctant to embrace the new burdens that came with it.  I have heard it said, “You can not receive a blessing and not be prepared for the burdens.”  Let me give an example that was shared with me.  Many are fortunate enough to give birth to a bundle of love; however, with that bundle comes sleepless nights, change in schedule, less time and money for a mani/pedi or to purchase the latest bag.  Some get so bogged down by the responsibilities; they are unable to find joy in the baby.  I am determined to enjoy my baby! Ummmm…not literally. Come off the roof, Husband!

I am committed to choose JOY in all things this Lavish life brings me. And I am quite confident you will too. Besides, being angry results in premature wrinkles. Now,  that is a burden!

Until the next time, have a great week and remain LAVISH!

My Companion’s Name is Louis

My favorite has been and will always be one of my favorites.  Actually, it is a every day staple.  My life would be quite sad if I did not have my constant companion by my side. This companion’s name is Louis…to be exact Louis Vuitton.  Louis has been with me through so much.  Good times…there is good ole Louis to join in the laughs.  Trying times…Louis is readily available with a tissue, pain reliever, or a sleeping pill.  Husband does not quite understand how Mr. Vuitton fits into our retirement plan; therefore, he is not impressed (insert confused emoji face).  I do not understand how hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers fit either (insert indifferent emoji).

I have a complete come apart when I see the letter “L” and “V” combined…kind of looks like an ugly cry.  Remember, no judgement  here!  Louis Vuitton is known for crafting beautiful handbags; however, my love extends way past purses.  I adore everything this fashion house creates.  Handbags, luggage, scarves, shoes, planners, sunglasses…the list is endless (just as I would like collection to be).

Husband and I have had serious discussions about my relationship with Louis and his shrinking space in our closet.  Well, he is talking and I am admiring my stuff, sooooooo, the conversation is always a tad bit one sided.  By the end of husband’s soliloquies, Louis and I conclude that we need our tiny house.  However, if I had to choose between my two men, I would choose husband every time…but Lord I pray I never have to!!!

I am not sure why I love Louis Vuitton as much as I do.  If we could control who we love…life would be so uncomplicated and since I can not control my adoration, I will continue to keep my companion close at all times.

Until the next time, have a great week and remain LAVISH!

Instantly Beautiful

Hola, mujeres hermosas (In other words….Hello Beautiful women).  As part of my “goal getter” mentality, I am learning Spanish, BUT it is going very very slow (Ugghhhhh…Me)

One day I was having a chat with my friend, C.  During the conversation, she asked me an amazingly prolific question. “What is the one thing you can put on that will INSTANTLY make you feel beautiful?” Huh…Crickets.  Well this caused me to really think.  I am so so much with an enormous beauty routine, and multiple rituals (so I have been told).  How in the world could I choose ONE thing?  But my one instant beauty came to mind…a turtleneck (do not judge… Ha Ha Ha).  When I slip that contraption on, I immediately feel like a classic beauty.  I love a turtleneck in ALL forms.  Give me long sleeve, sleeveless, 3/4 length sleeve, ribbed, cotton, racerback, chunky, no matter the form, just give them all to me.  However, I really love black, but I will take whatever I can get my hands on (LOL).

Once again, this was a question was too delicious to keep to myself.  So you know I surveyed my gorgeous girls (hey y’all).  Here is what some of them said.

C – Banana Republic Classic Perfume

La’Missy – A good fitted jacket (Indeed)

Wife – Serious pair of fitted jeans

Mom – Earrings

Bestie – A new pair of zapatos (shoes) I am bilingual…remember

Old E – Lip Gloss

Kat – A fresh weave (Amen)

When I asked the question and received the answers, I was simply amazed because not one of these lavish ladies said the same thing.  Seriously!  I loved getting more insight into the women that I adore. Isn’t it mind boggling how many different things we consider beautiful and the great thing is that we are all correct. I have come to the conclusion through my many years of living and conversing with the wonderful women who surround me is the most beautiful thing is being YOURSELF.

Lavishites, put on your turtleneck, spray on your perfume, slip on those new shoes, flip that fresh weave…whatever makes you feel beautifully confident and step high! Own your uniqueness and you will never go wrong.

Before I depart, everyone say a collective “thank you” to C for starting this great conversation. She is one smart cookie!

Hasta la proxima vez…ALWAYS remain lavish
